Meesia triquetra


The ovate-lanceolate leaves that are distinctly three-ranked are definitive characters. Meesia longiseta is quite similar and is differentiated by entire margins. In addition, Meesia longiseta is autoious and frequently with capsules, while M. triquetra is dioious and rarely has capsules.

Habit Erect, unbranched plants, lime to dark green.
Stems colorless and smooth.
Leaves spreading when moist, twisted when dry, three-ranked, ovate-lanceolate, acute, margins serrulate above, costa strong, single, ending in the apex, decurrent.
Leaf Cells rhombic, rectangular, or quadrate, smooth, longer below.
Alar Cells not differentiated.

Habitat Occurring singly or in small patches in rich fen lawns, often with species of Scorpidium.
